Dental emergencies we treat
If it hurts, is swollen, is broken or is bleeding, get in touch. These are the problems we see most often at urgent appointments.
Toothache and severe pain
Pain that keeps you awake, hurts to bite on, or will not settle with painkillers.
Swelling, abscess or infection
A swollen face or gum, a bad taste, or a spot on the gum. Infection needs seeing promptly.
Broken or chipped tooth
A fractured, cracked or sharp tooth after biting on something hard or a knock.
Lost filling or crown
A filling, crown or veneer that has come out, leaving the tooth sensitive or sharp.
Wisdom tooth pain
Sore, swollen gum around a wisdom tooth, or difficulty opening your mouth.
Emergency extraction
When a tooth cannot be saved we can take it out, and we have a Specialist Oral Surgeon on the team.
Emergency root canal
Settling an infected nerve to get you out of pain, with postgraduate-trained root canal dentists on site.
Knocked-out or loose tooth
After a fall or injury. Keep the tooth in milk and call us straight away.
Clear fees before anything is done
We are a mixed NHS and private practice. For an emergency you can be seen under the NHS or privately. Either way, nothing is started without your agreement.

Until 9pm
Tuesday to Friday
- Most practices close at 5pm. We stay open until 9pm Tuesday to Friday, so you can be seen the same evening instead of waiting until morning.
- Evening urgent appointments are the same NHS charge: £27.90, or free if you are exempt.
- After 9pm, at weekends and on bank holidays, call NHS 111 for the urgent dental service, or WhatsApp us and we will contact you when we reopen.
Private fees are published on our website.
Treated by Masters-qualified dentists with a special interest in surgery
-
Masters-level clinicians
Three of our dentists hold a Master's degree in Clinical Implantology, two with Distinction. The same precision goes into an emergency extraction as into a planned implant.
-
A Specialist Oral Surgeon on the team
Dr Hassan-Ali Ismail, MOralSurg (RCPSG), carries out surgical extractions here, so difficult teeth do not need a referral elsewhere.
-
Special interest in root canal treatment
Dentists postgraduate-trained in endodontics, with microscope-assisted root canal treatment for teeth other dentists have struggled to save.
-
Modern diagnostics
Digital X-rays, intraoral scanning and 3D imaging where it helps, so you get a clear diagnosis rather than a guess.
-
Fantastic with nervous patients
Our dentists are known for putting anxious patients at ease and explaining every step before it happens.
-
NHS and private under one roof
A mixed NHS and private family practice. You choose how any treatment is provided.

Emergency appointments, answered
No. Urgent NHS appointments are for anyone in pain, whether or not you have been to us before. You do not need to leave your usual dentist.
An urgent appointment deals with the problem that is hurting you. It is not the same as joining the practice for ongoing NHS check-ups, which depends on the NHS capacity we have at the time. We will explain your options for any follow-on care when we see you.
Often, yes. We hold urgent slots through the day and into the evening until 9pm Tuesday to Friday, and give them to the people who need them most. If we are full we will say so, tell you what to do to manage the pain, and offer the next available time.
Every appointment is confirmed by us. Once you have called or messaged, wait for our reply or call back before you travel.
Yes to evenings. We are open until 9pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Mondays, so most people can be seen the same day without taking time off work. We are closed at weekends and on bank holidays: call NHS 111, who run the out-of-hours urgent dental service for the area, or leave us a WhatsApp message and we will get back to you when we open.
If you have a swelling that is affecting your breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading to your eye or neck, or bleeding that will not stop, go to A&E.
An NHS urgent appointment is £27.90, the standard NHS charge, and free if you are under 18 or exempt from charges, for example if you receive certain benefits, are pregnant or had a baby in the last 12 months, or hold a valid HC2 certificate. There is no deposit or booking fee. That covers the assessment and the treatment needed to sort the immediate problem. If you need further treatment afterwards, we will explain the options and costs with you in person.
A private emergency appointment is £75. Any treatment on top of that is quoted before it starts.
Getting you comfortable is the first job. We use modern local anaesthetic and check it is working before we start anything. Our dentists are used to anxious patients and will explain each step and stop if you need a break. Tell us you are nervous when you book and we will allow for it.
Toothache, abscesses and infections, broken or chipped teeth, lost fillings and crowns, wisdom tooth pain, extractions, the first stage of root canal treatment, and teeth that have been knocked or loosened. Surgical extractions can be carried out here by our Specialist Oral Surgeon. If something needs a hospital service we will say so and refer you.
We are at 497 Ash Bank Road, Werrington, ST9 0DT, on the A52 on the eastern edge of Stoke-on-Trent, about ten minutes from Hanley. There is parking at the practice and on nearby streets, and buses along Ash Bank Road stop close by.
Yes. We are a family practice and see children for urgent problems. NHS dental treatment is free for under-18s and for 18-year-olds in full-time education.
